This powder flask was once a trusty companion to a flintlock-wielding Soldier or Hunter and is a unique antique collectable accessory from the days of muzzle firearms before pre-made paper cartridges became standard in the 19th century, a gunpowder horn or flask was an important piece of equipment, these early flasks were typically made of wood, horn, and leather, rather than ferrous metals that were prone to give off sparks when hit were avoided so they could safely carry gunpowder by keeping it dry and convenient for reloading after every shot taken, usually, these have very long spouts designed to dispense the powder into the gun. Many were highly decorated and were works of art. CONDITION: This gunpowder flask is from the mid-1800s, used, and in good condition for its age and use. It has an all-over aged metal patination, there is no damage to the ribbed copper and metal body of the flask, and the applied brass decorative central piece is firmly attached but shows some soldering metal.
