This is a 1942-stamped US Army Portable Pacific-Theatre, Field Officer's Campaign Desk, designed to sit on a table or flat surface when being used, the hinged lid becomes a writing desk surface when open, with an internal wooden pull-out drawer and various wooden box storage compartments, for war correspondence. Manufactured by "American Hardware Co. Inc."
This portable tabletop fold-out desk still bears its original Khaki Green paint, this is as hardy as the day it was made and is indeed a remarkable example of a portable field desk. One can only imagine all the decisions and battle plans that were conceived on these desks out in the fields. Makes a great stage/set piece for film or historical stage re-enactments. These also make excellent home decor desks for small spaces and are easily converted to a hidden bar, a hard-to-find item for history buffs and military collectors.
This has been manufactured robustly, all sides have been reinforced with studded metal, and both of its thick hide leather straps are still fixed on either side making it easy to lift. It has 2 side closure latches on the outside that are fully functional and lock it closed tightly, it has a top central outer keyed lock and is complete with the original key. There is no damage to the drop-down panel, both the hinges work well and are firmly attached. The top drawer pulls out easily using the two handles together and is without damage or stain, the handles are not broken or damaged,
This is a terrific portable mobile WWII Military Campaign Desk, it presents in excellent condition, particularly with the two intact leather handles as well as the original key is extremely difficult to find.

CONDITION: This 1942 Military Field Desk is used and in excellent condition for its age and uses. All the sides have been reinforced with studded metal, and its 2 thick hide leather straps show some age and wear but are still strong and firmly fixed on either side. It has 2 side closure latches on the outside that are both firmly attached and fully functional and lock it closed tightly, it has a top central outer keyed lock and it comes complete with the original key. it has some superficial scuff marks and wear to the outer khaki-painted finish, there is no damage to the drop-down panel, other than some scuff/ scratch marks to the khaki finish, both the hinges work well and the chains are firmly attached.
