For your consideration, you are viewing an Antique Circa 1890s piece of Danish military history. This is a rare German-made M1889 Danish Krag Jorgensen Bayonet complete with leather Scabbard, for use on the Krag–Jørgensen Gevær M1889 Rifle. In 1886 the first Krag Jørgensen repeating action rifles were constructed by two Norwegians "Ole Herman Johannes Krag" Ole Krag, was a captain in the Norwegian Army and then became director of Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk (the government weapons factory), and Krag enlisted the help of master gunsmith "Erik Jørgensen". The M1889 bayonet was approved on 7th October 1892. In the early years, these were manufactured by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co, of Solingen, Germany. The first M1889 bayonets had a checkered leather grip which was improved in 1893, the later version has wood grips that are secured by two brass rivets (as in this example). The unique locking design is interesting, it has a triangular lever on the end/top of the pommel. The Krag Jorgensen M1894 rifle was adopted as standard arms by Denmark, the United States, and Norway. The bayonets that pair with the Krag Jørgensen rifle in these three countries are all different. In the USA, the M1892 Krag Jørgensen rifle was the primary military firearm for 12 years (up until 1906) The rifles and corresponding bayonets exist in several versions, but the primary rifle that was used in Norway was the M1894 and in Denmark, it was the M1889 This bayonet has a wood grip, secured by 2 brass rivets, a bright polished, flat spine, and a 9" single-edge, fullered on both sides spear point blade. It scalloped rounded bird's head pommel that has a triangular locking lever on the end/top of the pommel. Fitted in the correct leather-covered steel scabbard with rolled steel locket with a raised belt loop and drag with ball finial. # The makers and inspection marks are:- RICASSO: "Alex Coppel" over "Scales"
