For your consideration, you are viewing a replica piece of History, this is a vintage reproduction of King Saint Ferdinand III's and his son Alfonso IX's sword and is currently kept in the Royal Armory of Madrid. This sword was known as the "Lobera" ("the wolf-slaying sword") and features foliage scrollwork engraved along the central part of the 86 cm blade. The metal guard, handle and pommel have been cast separately and feature a honeycomb texture on the pommel and the handle grip, the crossguard has a central Castile and the rest has been decorated with foliage and a downward curved scroll terminating in a three-leaf or petal flower. The #King Ferdinand III: of Castile (San Fernando in Spanish) was called the Saint, or the Holly One, He was canonized in 1671and he was the reigning King of Castile from 1217-1252 and León from 1230-1252 as well as Galicia from 1231. He was the son of Alfonso IX of León and Berenguela of Castile. He promoted Spanish as the official language of his kingdoms by replacing Latin. He attempted to unify and centralize the administration of the Castilian and Leonic kingdoms. Ferdinand was the main architect of the "Reconquista" of the Catholic kings of the Iberian territories under Muslim control and divided the conquered lands among the military orders, the Church and the nobles. #Lobera Sword: is preserved as a relic in the Cathedral of Seville, every year it is brought out to be displayed in a procession that commemorates the "Reconquest of Seville" in 1248 by King Ferdinand III. This sword was a faithful companion in King Ferninands majestic journey, the Lobera served as an altar in his prayers, and as a righteous sceptre in his royal duties. Ferdinand's symbol of his power as a king was his sword "Lobera" (literally: "the wolf-slaying sword") # This has no makers and inspection marks. CONDITION: This reproduction sword is from circa 90s, and it is in good condition for its age. The pommel, grips and crossguard are in very good condition with no damaged pieces, indents or marks and fit tightly to the tang. The 86 cm blade has a naturally aged patina finish with no pitting.
