For your consideration, you are viewing an Antique piece of Swiss military history. This is the Swiss Model 1889/18 Bayonet (AKA: M1889/96 or 1889/99) bayonet & Scabbard and pre-WWII Leather Frog, these are for use on the 7.5 mm. Schmidt-Rubin 1896/11 Infantry Rifle, and the K11 Carbine.
The M1889/18 bayonets' origins pose a riddle. The bayonets were converted from the Model 1889 in the early 1900s, but it has been also claimed that the conversion was done in the 1940s, but I think that the early 1900s conversion seems to be the more likely answer, however the actual designation name "Model 1889/18" was officially given to the bayonet in the late 1940s.
One distinctive feature of the bayonet is the dome catch that was added to the right fuller of the blade, this was designed to help retain the scabbard, the dome catch rivet sizes came in 6mm and 9mm diameters.
The manufacturer Waffenfabrik Neuhausen first produced and issued this model in the late 1890s and continued production until approximately 1918. Neuhausen MF Bern is a Swiss city very close to the German border and as such many of the Waffenfabrik companies' weapons were brought and used in both WWI and WWII.
This has a bright polished bird head pommel and cross-guard with an internal spring lock button. It has two-piece wood grips and the 30 cm / 11¾ inch single-edged blade has a bright polished finish with squared-end deep fullers on both sides that terminates in a spear point. The right fuller has a dome catch near the ricasso. It has a blackened steel scabbard with a ball-tip finial and a pre-WWII Schmidt-Rubin leather frog.
#The makers and inspection marks are:
  • RICASSO: LEFT:"WAFFENFABRIK NEUHAUSEN"
  • CROSSGUARD: "35490" - "Swiss Cross" under guard
  • FROG: "TOCHTERMANN" over "ZWEISHINEN" within an oval - over "23"

CONDITION

This bayonet is Antique 1890s, used, and in excellent condition for its age and uses in warfare. The 2 piece wood grips fit tightly to the tang, the wood condition is very good with a nice patina, with a chip/dent on the left side with normal light scuff marks, and the release/lock button is tight and in excellent smooth working order. The blade has a polished finish with scattered spots stains and no pitting. The edge is not sharp and has no dings on either of the edges, the point is not sharp with NO pitting of the metal. The remaining metal on the cross-guards and pommel finish is polished with light scuff marks. Fitted in the correct scabbard with a raised bar and a blackened metal finish, which shows wear to the finish on the ball finial, it has no dents and fits tightly together with the bayonet. The leather frog is in excellent condition, the leather is supple, and all the stitching, studs and buckles are firmly attached. # Please note: The Photographs form part of the description; Super-sized photos can show the finer details and conditions.
