For your consideration, you are viewing a piece of Military History, this is a Turkish Modified M1935 knife bayonet, that has been modified to be used with the M1 Garand rifle. The modification has an attached auxiliary plate that has a smaller muzzle ring set behind the original crosspiece. This added auxiliary plate is secured with a single large-diameter pin. These M1935 bayonets were modified for use with both the U.S. M1 Garand and the Greek 6.5 mm. Y1903 Mannlicher-Shoenauer rifle. M1 Garand bayonets have an auxiliary MRD in the 13 mm. range, (as in this example) whereas the Y1903 bayonets have a minimum MRD of 14 mm. The Military Assistance Program (MAP) recorded that the United States supplied M1 rifles to Turkey between the years of 1950 and 1972. MAP records do not show any shipment of bayonets to Turkey, hence the necessity to make indigenous bayonets for the M1 Rifle. This does not have its original scabbard but comes with a new Australian handstitched brown leather sheath, made in Australia by a highly skilled Australian saddle-maker, on its own, it is valued at over $70.

CONDITION:

This bayonet is from circa 1930s, and it is in good condition for its age and uses in warfare. The grips are in very good condition with no missing pieces, but both have multiple indents and marks and fit tightly to the tang, the release/lock button is in working order. The 25 cm blade has a  Polished finish with an aged grey patina, and pitting near the tip. The edge is not sharp and has a couple of dings. The remaining metal on the cross-guards, pommel and mortise has a polished finish with some scuff wear, indents and an aged patina. The new brown leather sheath is super strong and supple with all the stitching tight and intact, the snap button is tight, and overall is of excellent quality. and fits tightly together with the bayonet. # Please note that the photographs form part of the description; Super-sized photos are available for viewing in the eBay gallery, to show the finer details and conditions.
