For your consideration, you are viewing a piece of Military History, this bayonet is a Swedish Model 1914 Sword bayonet with a rolled metal Scabbard, designed to fit the 1914 and later Swedish Mauser, the 6.5 mm Mauser. These 1914 Bayonets were also issued to the "Stockholm Palace Guards" (See #Pg: 255-256 & 263 of The Bayonet Book by Watts & White). This knife bayonet was manufactured from 1914 through to WWII and continued to be used in service long after WWII ended. They are well made. The distinctive odd curved hilt design suggests that this bayonet was not originally designed to fit a rifle that would mount a bayonet. In 1914, the M1894 Carbines were altered by the addition of a nose cap that incorporated a bayonet mount. The hilt incorporates a locking button mechanism to secure the bayonet to the scabbard. The 1914 bayonets were made by 2 different manufacturers.- Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB (EJ-anchor-AB) in Eskilstuna (Eskilstuna Iron Manufacturing, Inc.). beginning around 1899 and produced bayonets up to 1912.
- Carl Gustaf’s Stads Gevärsfaktori (Crown over C) in Eskilstuna (“Rifle Factory of Carl Gustaf’s town”) took over the production of bayonets in 1913. Carl Gustafs was founded in 1812 and is still in business.
