You are viewing an Antique Circa Pre 1920 piece of military history. This single collar badge is an original WW1 White Metal Welsh Regiment (1719 - 1969) Also known as the Welch Regiment "The Welch", is an archaic spelling of "Welsh". The spelling of this earlier version "The Welsh", was used up until 1920 when it was changed to "The Welch" The regiment was an infantry regiment of the British Army from 1881 to 1969. This has the two original copper loops to the reverse of each badge but has no Cotter Pin.

The badge of a regiment is its most basic identifying emblem and much emotion is vested in such badges by members of regiments. This badge features the Prince of Wales's plumes with coronet and motto on divided scrolls ('ICH DIEN'). German, meaning 'I serve'; the motto of the Prince of Wales, adopted with the crest of ostrich feathers after the battle of Crécy (1346), from John of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia, who was killed in the battle. Below the scrolls is a larger scroll bearing the title  "Gwell angau na Chywilydd" = "Death before dishonour" which is the  Regiments Welch Motto.

CONDITION: This badge is Antique pre-1920s, used, and in good condition for its age and use. This has no pin but the two copper loops on the back are firmly attached.
