For your consideration, you are viewing a 1930s Vintage piece of Military History, this is a Turkish 1935 Mauser Knife Bayonet and Austrian Scabbard & Leather Frog for use with the 8 mm. Mauser M1893 and M1903 rifles, that were used by the Osman empire in WW1 and WW2. This is the rare leaf spring variation, see "page 196 of Janzen's Notebook of Bayonets" with a long leaf locking spring, these particular bayonets were newly manufactured, not converted from another bayonet. However, the Leaf springs were salvaged from old Peabody bayonets. The model 1935 is the final Turkish bayonet type designed for use with Mauser rifles. Yet, the M1935 designation is also applied extensively to a baffling assortment of similarly-dimensioned bayonets, that have been cobbled together using recycled parts from older bayonets. Both Austria and Germany supplied Ottoman Turkish forces with large quantities of bayonets of all types during WW1, and many bayonets were also exported as surplus to Turkey late and post-WWI. After WW1 starting in the late 1920s, the Turks converted large numbers of bayonets to fit their weapons, where the blades were all subsequently Turkish Factory Arsenal shortened to 9 7/8” during the 1930s for use with the 8 mm. Mauser M1893 and M1903 model rifles. In 1929 the ASFA started using a Roman script with Western numbers in all its factories. You will not find the marking “ASFA’ on any weapon (rifle or bayonet) made or refurbished before 1929. Any long bayonets in the Turk Arsenals (M1887, M1890, 93, and parade quillback M1903 and others) were all deemed far too long, and all were "cut back and reground" to a 10-inch blade (the same length of the M1903 short bayonet) including many foreign bayonets, like the Australian Pattern 1907 bayonets and the popular Imperial German Sg. 98/05. This bayonet has only a serial number, and no other marks, but Turkish manufactured post WW1. This comes with an Austrian Rolled Steel Scabbard and a WW2-era Leather Frog. This is as strong and sturdy as the day it was made, and it is still very suitable to use for survival, hunting, or as a utility Knife. # The makers and inspection marks are:
  • CROSS GUARD: "31 27".
  • SCABBARD: "18" - "Hapsburg Eagle" - "OE over WG"
CONDITION: This bayonet is a 1930s Circa. used, and in good condition for its age and uses in warfare. The wood grips are in good condition with missing chips that have worn smooth, indent marks consistent with use and fit tightly to the tang, the leaf spring release/lock button is in working order. The 25 cm blade has a bright polished finish with an aged grey patina with no stain and no pitting with wide square fullers with rectangular ends. The edge and the point are not sharp and have no dings to the edge but it does have a graze mark. The remaining metal on the cross-guards, pommel and mortise has a bright polished finish with some wear and stain. The scabbard has a refurbished blackened finish and it has no dents and fits tightly together with the bayonet. The leather frog is supple with all the stitching tight and intact. # Please note that the photographs form part of the description; Super-sized photos are available for you to view in the eBay gallery, to show up the finer details and conditions.
